Job Opportunity: Chairperson – Higher Education Commission (HEC)

Location: Islamabad, Pakistan

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, the apex national body responsible for promoting higher education through quality assurance, accreditation, and policy formulation, invites applications for the position of Chairperson.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Have at least 15 years of experience in the field of Higher Education, including a minimum of 10 years post-Ph.D. experience.
  • Possess a distinguished portfolio of research publications.
  • Be a person of international eminence with academic and administrative experience in Higher Education.
  • Be under 65 years of age as of the application deadline.

Qualification and Experience

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A distinguished professional with international eminence and extensive experience in Higher Education.
  • Well-versed in academics, research, policy formulation, administration, and management.
  • Experienced in teaching at reputable university(ies).
  • A proven leader with a strong record of achievements and contributions to the sector.
  • Self-driven, committed, and capable of implementing government goals in Higher Education.

Terms of Appointment

  • The Chairperson will be appointed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
  • The term is for two years, extendable for one more similar term as per law.
  • Compensation will be in accordance with the “Chairperson HEC Salary Package” approved by the controlling authority.

Application Process

Qualified individuals must submit their applications through the National Job Portal (www.njp.gov.pk) by September 10, 2025, and include the following:

  • A detailed CV highlighting excellence, achievements, awards, and publications.
  • Names of five confidential referees (including supervisors, peers, and subordinates).
  • Copies of testimonials, experience certificates, and other proofs of accomplishment.
  • A written statement (max 1,000 words) answering:
    “Why do you wish to apply, and why do you think you are qualified for this post?”
  • A passport-sized photo.

Note: Candidates already serving in Government/Semi-Government roles must apply through the proper channel. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. No TA/DA will be admissible.
